This is what I plan to submit to NC Division of Health Care Personnel Investigations Section, to the Veteran Affairs Administration, and Joint Commission concerning the care I’ve received and unfortunately I couldn't givethis visit no stars. Dear Veteran Affairs Administration, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the unprofessional behavior and disrespectful conduct exhibited by Dr. Eric Ibegbu during a recent patient care visit. As a retired military veteran who has relied on the services provided by Veteran Affairs for many years, I am deeply troubled by the lack of professionalism displayed by one of your medical staff members. During my recent appointment with Dr. Eric Ibegbu at Atlantic Medical Group on the18th of March, I experienced firsthand the distressing demeanor and inadequate customer service standards that were demonstrated throughout the duration of my visit. Dr. Eric Ibegbu not only failed to address my medical concerns with the level of attention and care expected from a healthcare professional but also exhibited an attitude that was dismissive and disrespectful. My appointment was at 3:45 and when it was 5:10 I asked the front desk I had an appointment at 3:45, is everything all right? She told me to wait and then they called me in to see the doctor. He acted like he was in a hurry, and I had a bad feeling about this visit. Specifically, Dr. Eric Ibegbu displayed the following behaviors: 1. Lack of Respectful Communication: Throughout the appointment, Dr. Eric Ibegbu communicated in a condescending and dismissive manner. His tone of voice and choice of words conveyed a blatant disregard for my concerns and needs as a patient. He looked at me and said, "why are you here" and he thought I was there for a colonoscopy. I told him I was not there for that reason. He looked at me in disgust. 2. Disregard for Patient Dignity: Dr. Eric Ibegbu demonstrated a lack of sensitivity towards my medical history and personal experiences as a retired military veteran. Instead of approaching the appointment with empathy and understanding, they seemed indifferent to the unique challenges faced by individuals who have served in the armed forces. I told him I was there because of my high ferritin levels, and he said they were a little high which I knew was a lie. My ferritin levels are 697 which is more than twice the high average. 3. Failure to Provide Adequate Care: Not only did Dr. Eric Ibegbu fail to address my medical issues effectively, but he also neglected to provide clear explanations or guidance regarding potential treatment options. His lack of thoroughness and professionalism left me feeling frustrated and uncertain about the next steps in managing my health. 4. Poor Customer Service: Beyond the medical aspects of the appointment, Dr. Eric Ibegbu exhibited a complete disregard for basic customer service principles. He was rude, impatient, and displayed an overall lack of concern for my well-being as a patient under his care. He laid his phone on the table, and he received a text. He stopped reviewing my record and answered his text. I felt humiliated and he did it once again during my visit. I served in the United States Navy for 23 1/2 years and I have received care by medical staff at the hospitals, clinics, battalion aid stations and onboard ships during the wars, but I have never received such poor and unprofessional patient care by any medical staff let alone a doctor. I know good medical care because I was a Hospital Corpsman and if one of my sailors treated a patient like that, I would have sent him to Captain's Mast. When he answered the next text message, I knew I had to leave before I had an anxiety attack. As a retired military veteran who has proudly served my country, I find it deeply disheartening to encounter such substandard treatment within the healthcare system provided by Veteran Affairs. It is imperative that all medical professionals affiliated with Veteran Affairs uphold the highest standards of professionalism, empathy, and respect when interacting with patients, especially those who have served in the military. I urge you to investigate this matter promptly and take appropriate disciplinary action against Dr. Eric Ibegbu for his unacceptable conduct. Additionally, I request that measures be implemented to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future, and that all staff members undergo training to reinforce the importance of respectful patient care. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that you will take the necessary steps to address my concerns and uphold the integrity of the healthcare services provided to veterans. I feel I can no longer trust him as a doctor or Atlantic Medical Group in Jacksonville or anywhere else where he is affiliated with because I am afraid of the care, I would receive from him or anybody he knows. Sincerely, DeMarco Lavell White

A recent appointment for hemorrhoid banding was so quick ,easy and painless. Very efficient and pleasant staff. Traveled from New Bern to avoid the big, impersonal, corporate medical feel. Highly recommend Atlantic Medical Group.

The staff is very friendly and professional. Dr. Ibegbu needs to work on his bedside manners. He did the colonosopy just fine and thank the Lord everything come out fine, however the doctor is in a big rush. He popped in once my husband was ready to leave, literally for about 10 seconds. He said everything went fine and there's nothing to worry about. Then proceeded to leave... I was like umm hold on -holding the paper work up I said are these your findings? He said yes,I read them out loud... he simply said yes, nothing to worry about. I was like but we don't know what they are?? He again said nothing to worry about and left. What?

Dr. Eric Ibegbu's staff was very helpful and made the colonoscopy process as painfree as possible. I had a great experience in the office and got my results back quickly. One of the nurses called me back to check on me the next day. Dr. Ibegbu even did a follow up visit online to go over the results. I really appreciate their care.

I would give 10 stars, if I could! I first wanted to say that Dr. Ibegbu is by far my favorite doctor EVER! He is the friendliest and funniest! He loves to tell jokes and make you laugh. He is so knowledgeable with his craft and I feel lucky to have found him. I had ESG and I can say if you are thinking about the procedure, go for it! I trust him completely! In one month, I have lost 19 pounds, and my acid reflux is GONE! I suffered horribly from it for years with this. I will recommend him to anyone that needs a doctor of this nature. He is top notch and I absolutely have no regrets with my decision of choosing Dr. Ibegbu as my doctor. Also, I see several reviews up here about his staff not being friendly. We just went through a pandemic and the staff is working to get in backlogged patients and new ones! Please bear in mind that they are working as hard as they can to ensure that each patient is handled with care and sensitivity. They are extremely busy and they are doing the absolute best that they can. Negative reviews for such a good doctor just does not settle right with me, and I wanted to take a moment to stand up for Dr. Ibegby and his staff. My thoughts and prayers are with this amazing doctor and his staff.

I’ve had both the Orbera balloon and then the subsequent ESG surgery permanently done. I am 5’3 and was about 225lbs at my heaviest before the balloon. I was going through a rough patch between a divorce and taking care of the kids. With my focus on the children and no help, I had a hard time taking care of myself. I put my kids first and worked to ensure their quality of life and education was maintained. My health started to deteriorate, which affected my weight and my back. I ended up becoming bed ridden on most days off from work from the pain of my weight. I thought taking this step would fix everything. You should know that this typically does not work as it takes both the surgery and a mind frame change for it to work. It was hard to acknowledge the reality of my situation at that time because I was in denial. I denied that food was a comfort and that my health was spiraling out of control because I painted a beautiful picture of my life to my friends, family and colleagues. Lose weight and avoid back surgery. I lost weight from the Orbera balloon WITHOUT exercising. I COULDN’T exercise because of my back pain even after the weight loss. In the end, I underwent a lower back spinal fusion surgery. Losing the weight in the beginning before the back surgery cut my recovery time in half and physical therapy was not as difficult as it could have been at my previous overweight circumstances. Looking back on it, I should have done ESG instead because it is essentially the same result as the Orbera balloon but more permanent. I was able to maintain the lifestyle with a drastic mind frame change because you can still EAT PAST the balloon and the ESG, defeating your purpose for the surgery, stretching your stomach and right back to where you were initially. The recovery was so easy and there was not any cutting involved. I am currently 127Lbs…and my quality of life and my children’s (because it directly affects them as well) has been changed for the best. Overall, Dr. Ibegbu and his staff were extremely accommodating, professional and made me feel like I was a human being instead of a number. They answered my questions, was patient, and was there each step of the way. You also work with a very patient, caring but honest and firm dietitian. I did interview other places, but Dr. Ibegbu and his staff were by far the kindest to me. That shows how personal they make you feel and comfortable. They provide the service but ultimately it is YOU that has to make sure that you are doing what you have to do to change your quality of life. I hope this very personal experience helps somebody. Invest in yourself, you deserve so much more.
